Mac Mini - thoughts for pseudo-DAW use?

I'm considering picking up a Mac Mini in the $500-$700 range so that I can have access to Metasynth and Infinity. I imagine for that much money I'll get no more than 512MB of RAM with between 40-80GB hard drive and a 1.3ghz or so G4 processor.

How well do these units work for this sort of thing? I must admit, I am pretty new to Apple computers, so any advice would be appreciated.

Mac Mini is like a Duron with an apple outside.
You should not take it serious as a workstation.

why should he wait for a intelmac which is not compatible with both apps and definetly never will?
he wants to use methasynth and infity!
for both apps the mac mini is fast enough for sure. i used to use bothe apps with a quadra 650 with 33mhz (not 333mhz just 33!!!)
