Looking to purchase GS2.5 160, or GS3 Ensemble

    Hi all,

    My system:
    WinXP Pro
    GigaStudio v2.5 96 (32 channels for 96 voices)
    P3 933MHz
    512MB RAM

What's happening is that I keep hitting the 96 voice limit easily with CPU only clocking in at a max of 60%. I am confident that I can get 160 channels in the GS2.5 160 version, but I am not so sure that if I upgrade to GS3 Ensemble (for 160 voices), whether my PC can handle it due to the extra load on the CPU by the GS3 version.

So, is anyone here looking at selling their old copies of GS2.5 160? Or does anybody know if I can get decent performance on my kinda PC... I have done a search and most people here seems to be in the P4 2GHz+ 1GB+ RAM
territory so I haven't a clue of my PC can actually meet the minimum requirements of GS3 Ensemble to cough up 160 voices?

    Thanks.

the problem is that only something like 10% of the p3 mobos allow more than 512mb!

i am not quite sure but the ensemble version of gs3 should perform like the gs 2.5 version.

    what motherbaord do you have?

Well yeah if you're stuck with an Intel chipset...but if you're lucky enough to have the Via chipset from that era you can take it up to a gig and a half with XP. You can get a Tyan 1854S Mobo off of eBay for $30 or so and muscle up! Cheers, jc
