    Woohoo! Finally got glasses!

I just got new glasses this week for my little near-sightedness! I've never needed glasses before, but I put these on, and the world was suddenly crisp and clear! I was very happy. And when I go back to college, the glasses will make me look smarter! (And hopefully the girls will like them! ) I am now exploring the world anew through my lenses.

Well, I don't remember my first pair of glasses, as I was only 2 years old, 72 years ago. I sure know the feeling when I put on a needed new pair. Even more, wow, do I know the difference when I take them off -- without them, I am legally blind, but with them, vision is at least as good as most people have. I keep a spare pair in the car, always! And, I have a pair especially for piano playing, with just the right focus to see the music on a grand piano, but okay for the computer also.

I can't say if the girls will like them, but I never had that kind of problem. I would expect you will enjoy viewing them more now.

    Hello my fellow Virginian!

We gotta see a photo with the spectacular spectacles!!! No excuses for the wrong notes on the piano now. . .

    Re: Woohoo! Finally got glasses!

I remember the first time I realized (sort of abruptly) I needed glasses. While I was attending the University at Buffalo for Music Ed and percussion performance, I was practicing constantly for my primary instrument jury. An examination that covered every instrument of percussion. Once you've passed your jury you had moved up period in standing and grade.
Three days and two nights of relentless practicing I would practice on one instrument several hours then take a fifteen-minute break. Plenty of coffee and energy bars seemed to hold be in place.
Hemingway, to make a long story even longer ... I passed my jury and was on my way home during the evening hours. As I drove I noticed all the street signs were hard to read and getting blurrier as I proceeded. To add to it I had had a slight headache most likely from not enough rest. (ya think?)
Next morning I couldn't focus on anything. Called the doctor and had an examination and was referred to and eye specialist the same day. His examination revealed a broken blood vessel in me right eye, not real serious, but enough to cause a change in vision. From that day on it was glasses! I held 20 20 vision till I was 43 years of age. Now, I can't go anywhere without my all my glasses and shoes too!
Sorry for the long rambling nonsense ear burning sigh inflicting mouth twisting brain dampening lengthy twisted full of turkey loaf and potatoes with hotdog liver lips ear chaffing post!
Moral of this story? Never beat more than you sleep.

    Re: Woohoo! Finally got glasses!

Having lived in NYC for about 8 years, I had moved up to New England to prep a sailboat I had bought for a voyage to the Carib and beyond. On the maiden voyage, I had along a friend of mine who is a merchant seaman captain. We were sailing up the coast into maine. He was taking marks along the coast.

F: See that radio tower on the mountain?

    Me: What ~~~~ing radio tower?

    F: That one....

Me: Let me see those glasses....WOW!!!

I had lived in a city where the furthest distance is around 200 ft. As soon as we got back to port, I went up the street into town and bought me a pair.

    But, I never wear them...

    My first pair of glasses...hmmm...
    I was in fifth grade.
I couldn't read the whiteboard, so I got my eyes checked by an OK doctor. (He wasn't that great) and I saw the world much cleaner and crisper. It was SO cool!!!
About every year I get a new pair because my eyes are slowly but surely getting worser and worser, as is my grammar. I started off with 20:40 in fifth grade, I now have 20:100. Luckially, my eye-getting-worsness is slowing down. I think I'll just need one more new pair and it'll stop.

My grandpa was telling me of this one young boy who had VERY bad eyesight, and he never knew it untill he started to read and couldn't figure out why his teacher was demanding so much from him. He got his first pair of glasses and he finally realized that trees were actually made of little leaves and branches and were not big green masses. That must've been quite an experience for him.

    End of rambling post.

Now that you can see, you do realize that all those black spots on the pages are not after all shorthand notation for COWS?

You do realize this don't you?

    Huh?

    Uh oh....

    Re: Woohoo! Finally got glasses!

One of the sure signs that I needed new glasses was, when signing in a choir, I read the music from the person in front of me. Worst case was probably when I was 15 or so, I did not recognize my mother crossing the street toward me until she was within speaking distance.
