OT: Do you have a music degree but work in cubicle city?

This is a sister thread to another survey going on...

How many of you have music degrees, but are currently working in another career to pay your rent, or are retired and performing other careers?

What did you originally major in? (comp, instrument, voice, conducting etc)
    Where did you study?

I have a BME (Music Education) and a MM (Trumpet Performance), but am currently working full time as a photojournalist waiting for my part time positions (Adjunct Music Professor) to become full time. I'm at a small, but growing college. Only time will tell.

I have Bachelor and Master's degrees in composition.

I pay the mortgage with gigs as a violist and occaisional violinist, Finale music engraver, program note writer for two orchestras in my area, adjunct faculty member in the music department of Indiana State University, and composer/arranger.

The pay isn't great, but at least I'm never bored...

I have a master's degree in composition from the Peabody Conservatory (Johns Hopkins U), and am still in the "young musician trying to figure things out" phase, no family to feed. I manage to pay my bills and live fairly comfortably through 100% music work. Over the past few years I have worked as:

    -Music teacher (public school)
    -Conductor/music director for theatre productions
    -Music director at a church
    -Orchestra manager
-Composer (film/multimedia, incidental music for theatre, occasionally a concert music commission, premiere or feature)
-Recording engineer (mostly pro-bono work for friends and colleagues at this point)

The teaching and conducting pays most of my bills, the rest is more sporadic, supplementary income. I'm getting married in about a year, but she's a busybody actress/director/dancer/choreographer/teacher, so we're in sort of the same boat.

Part of me WISHES I were in cubicle city--it would be nice to leave my job at work at 5pm and have the rest of the day for composing, practicing my instruments, etc. The way things work now, my "spare time" usually has to go to lesson planning, score study and conducting practice, running rehearsals, returning emails and phone calls, networking, or feeling guilty for not doing those things. Ah well, things will settle down when I get mature enough to realize I don't have to accept every opportunity offered to me!

Honestly, the ideal job for me would be truck-driving. I'd love to drive all day, meet people all over the country, have my mind free for . And I'd keep my laptop and a MIDI controller in the back, composing at truckstops... Aah that would be nice...

If you think you will be able to leave at 5pm, you are crazy! More like you will be putting in 60-80 hours a week. Even if you just put in a measly 40 (how you would do this I have no idea), you would be too burned out to do any decent writing.

TRuck driving - Ideally yes, except its dangerous, unhealthy, and weary.

Ideal job for me would be: teaching
