    GPO Song - Baroque Boogie

Thanks to valhalx regarding embedding of the link.

After years of mediocre samples and soundfonts, I decided to try GPO. I will be taking some of the existing songs from my site and re-working them under GPO, as well as writing some new ones just for GPO.

Here is the link to the first of these songs, Baroque Boogie, which is a brass quartet.

Fun but with a serious contrapuntal style - I really enjoyed the mix of the two.

I couldn't help but mentally compare this to the works of our fellow member Larry G. Alexander - such similar techniques but such dissimilar sound. The contrast really tickles my cerebrum.

The performance and mix were adequate to good, a form of some interest and I especially liked the serious sections interrupted with the fun serctions and vice versa.

So everything is great and I look forward to hear the next pieces (but with maybe a more varied instrumentation ...).

Glad to see you got on. Your piece is excellent. I listen with head phones so the spatial separation of the opening comes accross quite well. Ditto the use of counterpoint. You might try varying the dynamics more. Good work.
Never look at the trombones. It only encourages them. Richard Strauss

This is a very enjoyable work. I like the section 1:31 - 2:05, great writing and very convincing!

    Thanks for sharing,

I've been having trouble getting the dynamics right. I have had to hand insert CC:1 items through Sonar. It's a latency issue with my Emu 404 card and my slow 1.2 ghz preocessor; too much lag to play them in properly.

I am upgrading my machine, and adding an old J.L. Cooper 'Fademaster' controler. That should allow for more real-time control.

    Bill,

I enjoyed listening to this very much. Excellent writing and voicing.

Although 1.2ghz is far below the minimum requirements you did amazingly well with what you are working with. Upgrading will certainly help out.

Thanks for posting this and looking forward to hearing more amazing work!

    Thanks much!

    Thanks, Gary.

It isn't too bad to work with the present machine, but I am having to dump tracks as audio so that I can work on other tracks. Not as bad as the old tape days, but I think a machine with more horespower will really help!

Overall, I think I am REALLY going to enjoy GPO as a tool.

Some very fine brass writing, Bill -- strong on voicing with excellent harmonic clarity -- and in interesting, enjoyable composition, as well!
