Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program in Scotland

The Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program's 2 Week Summer Intensive in
Edinburgh, Scotland is only 4 weeks away (August 22nd - September 2nd).

Richard Birdsall, the winner of the GPO Competition, has won free tuirion to the program. If you have an intrerest in film scoring I urge you to check out this program.

The program includes the first 2 "core" classes of the internationally
recognized regular year program taught by the program's creator: 2 time
Emmy Award winning composer/arranger/conductor Hummie Mann. These
classes cover many topics including: who are the "players" on the music
team and what they do - the music supervisor, music editor, contractor,
orchestrator, copyist, etc.; discussions of the different types of
scores - electronic, acoustic, combination; what are the
characteristics of a successful and effective film score; how is music
synchronized to film - click tracks and free timing; budgets and
contracts; performing rights organizations and royalties; techniques of
composition particular to writing dramatic music and much more. Many
video and audio examples of the instructor's work are used in the class
and each student receives over 350 pages of handouts including over 200
pages of scores from actual films for study and analysis. Hummie is an
active film composer with over 20 years experience in the business.
His credits include films such as "Robin Hood: Men in Tights", "Thomas
and the Magic Railroad", and IMAX's "Cyberworld 3D". More information
and audio samples of his work is available at http://www.hummiemann.com

In addition to the 2 core classes, students choose 2 elective classes - one
for each week - all taught by industry professionals.

    Week 1 electives:
    • Midi Technology - Introduction to Cubase
    • Sound Recording - Pro-Tools (Editing, Recording, Automation, Effects)
    • Practical Music Theory For The Contemporary Composer*

    Week 2 electives:
    • Midi Technology - Digital Performer (Mac)
    • Sound Recording - Introduction To Surround Sound 5.1 Mixing &
Recording, Actual Recording Of Instruments (Both Ethnic & Orchestral

It IS extremely cool... I would do it again if I had the money ...looking forward to the second part!

It's a great opportunity to know what to do, how to do it, what not to do, etc...

And did I mention it is also incredibly fun?

Although I live in Scotland I can't make this one much as I'd love to. However if anyone is coming over and would like to meet up for a beer and a tune I'd be delighted to arrange something, especially if y'all want a great day out in Glasgow
