OT- Computer Power on the (relatively) cheap

I know people are always wondering if their rig is sufficient for GPO (or will for GPOA) and I know a lot of people consider a grand to be a lot of money. On the other hand...for less than a thousand (before taxes and a mail-in rebate) you can get the following:

    AMD Athlon(TM) 64 3300+ operating at 2.4GHz
    2GB DDR-400MHz SDRAM (2x1GB)
160GB 7200 rpm SATA Hard Drive
    DL 16X DVD+/-R/RW drive
    15" LCD Flat-Panel Monitor
    Microsoft(R) Works Suite including Word

5 years ago this would have been magic...right now, it's simply a good buy. Of course, as all things computer-related, wait another 5 years and you know what this will look like...yesterday's trash!

But if you're looking now (or soon), it just might fit the bill.

Man, for under a grand? sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

That's what I thought...things move pretty fast in the industry, but that looked tempting.

    Just thought I'd share.

If a DVD burner and a couple of independently powered speakers of reasonable quality were thrown in, I would say that is more or less the going rate for a package like that at the moment. Sometimes the RAM is lacking, but if there is space in the box, you can buy another GB stick quite cheaply these days.

I configured the a1030e series with the above. It's on sale, so prices will change.
