    Music to crush planets by

As a film composer with anti-hollywood sentiments, I am almost embarrassed to share this. I say almost, because it's just too much darn fun not to!

Bombastic orchestral sample (< 1MB) -- Click it, and crank the volume!

Strings, low brass, and half of the percussion are GPO. I am very happy with the brass sound here.

Great sequence to intro a bad guy or evil force.
    Liked the percussion and brass.
Never look at the trombones. It only encourages them. Richard Strauss

Thanks for listening. It was a lot of fun to put together. Looks like it's going into the film!

    Jamie,

This is ominously fabulous. It's frightening just listening to it - especially cranked up on full volume! I hope it's not planet earth about the be crushed . This does seem like it was fun to do.

I really like the sound you got.

Going to film! Congrats! LEt us know when it premieres.

    Thanks for posting this,

I'm happy to report that no actual planets were crushed in the making of this music.

Actually, this was written as a bit of satire to represent an overly-opressive mother in a comical setting. The only instruction I received was "Darth Vaderesque."

It is very ominous - just the kind of music one would expect when walking down a dangerous alley - ur, galaxy. The low brass are particluarly effective. May I make one small criticism? The percussion about halfway through has a real swing to it - do Darth Vaders swing? It seems to lighten the feeling of dread. Perhaps the bad guy is both evil and charismatic, in which case you have that powerful combination of awful-yet-attractive. Schubert was a master a this, so you are in good company!

    Congratulations on the film!

That is great. Would like to see the film that this is for.

I agree about GPO's brass. If it is scored properly, it works quite well. It must have been a hoot to do.

I was looking for Venus in the night sky last evening... and there it was, gone.

    No Mars or Saturn, either.

By all accounts, this piece is, therefore, fully a success!

As far as I know, no, Darth does not swing. The suggestion of "Darth Vaderesque" I did not take as literal. We have an understanding that I am to be liberal in my interpretation of his musical direction.

Then again, maybe the guy can swing. Would be interesting to see.
