Question Sample rates? Bit rates? kbps? I'm confused!

    What's a sample rate?
    What's a bit rate?
    What's a kbps?

The reason I ask is that I see the sample rate settings in GPO studio, I noticed that some sample libraries come in 16-bit and 24-bit, and I noticed in Real Player that all of my files have a kbps number.

    What does all this mean?

    Thanks,
    -Chris

    Thanks, Bill!

    That was really helpful.
It's very interesting that there are so many choices of bit depths and sample rates out there for recording, yet it will almost always end up at 16bit/44.1khz again or DVD audio, whatever that might be (not sure).

    Thanks again,
    -Chris

More importantly, it depends on your sample bit rates too? Doesnt it?

If all my samples are at 16/44.1, does it make sense to record at 32/96?
