    If I may introduce myself......

    Hi....

You might have seen a post or two from me hereabouts but I thought I should maybe introduce myself more formally here.

I am Steve and I run Hollow Sun. I specialise in sampling (and all the processes involved) and have been developing sound library since 1986 when I produced library for Akai’s (then) new S900 and MPC60. Subsequently their S1000, 3000 and so on and more recently, my own ‘vintage’ library which has been taken on for international distribution by UK soundware experts, Zero-G, under the title ‘Nostalgia ’.

Of course, I came here initially through the looping work I was doing for the sustained kid’s choir samples in the Bela-D Media ‘Giovanni’ library (I was curious to see what the ‘vibe’ was) but on further trawling here, I can see that this is a very sensible (mostly!) and level-headed forum populated by a wide range of users who might appreciate the other work I do.

I’ll keep the plug as brief as possible but I sell modestly priced CDs of various synths and keyboards at my site. All the samples are seamlessly looped using various proprietary techniques I have developed over the last 16 or more years (and which I used on Giovanni) and are all thoroughly optimised for maximum authenticity/impact and minimal memory and CPU-hogging! I also have some ‘freebies’ for visitors to download and enjoy.

Thanks for listening and I hope you’ll pay a visit to Hollow Sun. There, you will find the aforementioned CDs (plus audio demos) and the freebies as well as (under the ‘Nostalgia’ banner) a fascinating ‘museum’ that gives an insight into the history of the instruments contained in that colllection.

I hope you enjoy the experience.

    Thanks.

    Steve

    I will when funds allow.

    Aw... shucks!!

Kind words indeed, especially from yourself (and thanks for letting my little 'plug' through - I wasn't aware of the policy here when I originally posted).

Thanks. Everyone is confident that it will do well and feedback so far has been nothing but positive

It's a meticulous collection of many significant (and magnificent) old synths, keys and beatboxes that got us to where we are now with our virtual samplers and so on. Without those innovations.... etc.!

Even if the actual product has no place in this parish's participants' libraries (which I find hard to believe - surely everyone needs some Mellotron... or is that just me? ), the online history of these fascinating instruments at Hollow Sun is worth a read!

I already have been (which is why I thought I should make my presence known).

I lurk in many other forums (no names mentioned) and I have to say that I find them a boiling pot of unfounded vitriol and/or uninformed opinion (or requests for hacked soundfonts of commercial libraries ).

    Not so here it seems

I'm just one of many developers here. Almost all audio forums have their own rules. Problems arise when people ignore or abuse the rules. PapaChalk (the administrator) encourages developer participation here and is a great guy. Just drop PapaChalk a line.

Of course it has a place. Musicians need all sorts of color in their palette and you offer very unique colors to paint sonic landscapes with. And who hasn't heard of the Mellotron. Derived from the Chamberlin, this tape-based playback instrument provided analog samples of 'real' instruments (before the digital age) such as flutes, strings, brass, choir, etc. This was probably the first sampler and everybody needs one.

This certainly is a helpful and constructive place for the most part. This is not to say that NS doesn't have its share of lively debate. I can never understand the vitriol that's encouraged in other forums. When all is said and done, it is all about making music.

Thumbs up Re: If I may introduce myself......

    Hi there Steve-o!

Glad to see you swing over to Northern Sound Source. As Gary had pointed out, drop a line to Mark or Dave and they will get you started with some type of campaign. Should you need any assistance with your banner, feel free to contact Alan Lastufka/Bela D. He's one talented mofo with those flash toys.

    Best of luck!

    Welcome onboard Steve!

As a fellow sample developer I want to congratulate you with the Zero-G deal. The free stuff that I've heard so far sounds great!

btw - you're right: Everyone needs a Mellotron!
