    Silent power supply?

    Hello all,

I am looking for a very silent power supply, 400 W.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Patrick,

I own and recommend the Seasonic SuperSilencer 400W supply. It is amazingly quiet. The downside is that it moves little air, so it may not ventilate your case well enough on its own.

I see that this supply is to be discontinued soon, and has been beaten by the Seasonic S12-430. Go for that.

I got mine for just under $100 off the shelf at Frys.

Let us know about your experience with it. Hopefully, it will be a noticable improvement.

One tip: take a look at the temperatures in your case (CPU & chipset) before and after you swap things out. If it's an Asus mobo, install and monitor Asus Probe. I'm not sure about other manufacturers.

My SuperSilencer moves little air, so I cracked my case open a bit. That way I didn't need to install another fan. With it open the chipset temp dropped by about 15C!

    Jon,

I have another very quiet case fan in there so it should be ok.

    Will let you know...

    Thank you again!

    Re: Silent power supply?

I highly recommend Seasonic, Antec (TruePower 2.0 series), and Tagan. Based on my personal experience and reviews I have read, these are the quietest high-output power supplies with fans. Also, they all come with three year warranties.

For a fanless solution, check out the Antec Phantom line.
