SAM VI Player-Anyone using theirs yet?

Since SAM has shipped out their Truestrike player last week, I am interested to know how it is working on your system. In particular on the Mac under OS X in Logic 7 preferably.
    Thanks,

Re: SAM VI Player-Anyone using theirs yet?

Haven't tried it on OS X but on Windows XP and Cubase SX3 it has crashed two times. Nothing major but that's already more crashes than with any other VI I have (and I have a bunch). This is of course Steinbergs job to fix as it's clearly the Halion VI that is causing the crashes (or SX3, so far it isn't rock solid either). The library itself is great even if there are some things I would have liked somewhat different. For example there is no motor-on version of the vibraphone. Any ideas how it could be done with a plugin or even inside the Halion VI? Then the close microphone sounds have a straight reflection from a wall that is annoying in some sounds. It sounds natural of course but a dryer sound would have been a nice option. It also seems that there is only a couple of different takes of some instruments, like the handclaps. A couple more alternations would have made it easy to do the rhytmic applause thing with playing instead of cutting or stretching from SFX files. Not sure if I would even have a use for that but it just occured to me when I was playing with the sounds.

These are all minor points and I'm really happy with the overall sound of the library. The stage and far mic sets sound really nice (and the close too when a studio-dry sound isn't needed) and I'm glad that I got the Pro instead of the Starter even if that would have suited me nicely for a long time.

Of course the sounds are superb. Love them. I've found putting a bit of Impulse on the sounds blends them with Gold.
    How is Steinbergs tech support?

There is room for improvement. Questions don't necessarily get answered and usually fixes to problems will take months. Quite the opposite to the support you can get from small developers, Voxengo for example.

Great sounds indeed, as already mentioned...

I haven't had any crashes yet, but haven't used it as extensively as I would have liked due to having absolutely no free time.

I'm using it as a VI in SAW Studio.

    Hey guys,

    We appreciate your feedback.

We can tell you that the Steinberg HALion team are extremely dedicated and friendly people. We communicate with them on a daily basis. From our experience they have always been on top of things and been very helpful.

P.S.: Make sure to visit us at our Musikmesse booth at Steinberg for a demo!

Well here is the problem I'm having. With only 4 instruments loaded, after a few times of playback the sampler stops streaming some of the instruments. They only play the few seconds of sound loaded into RAM and the green disc light on the player goes out. Not all the sounds do this but the only way to get the streaming back is to reload the player and sounds which is slow. This is under OS 10.3.8 with 1.5 G RAM and 2 SATA Drives for samples under Logic 7.01. Kontact streams from these drives just fine. My work around has been to run the player in REWIRE mode which works but isn't as convenient. Also the player is less stable in rewire mode but it does work.
All I've received from Steinberg so far is an e-mail that says I should read the FAQ, which I have and none of the answers pertain to my question.
It's like having a really beautiful car that stalls out periodically.
    Cheers,

Wonder why there is no motor-on vibraphone. Even AO has a slow / fast one. You can use two detuned samples per key for modulation, but that's not ideal. Some slow chorus type FX might be a workable alternative.

Try lowering your ram buffer all the way to .20 from 1.60. I haven't tested this extensively but I was having the same problem until I messed with this. (Logic 7.01 dual 2ghz g5)
