    Orchestral Recording Wishlist:

I'll be recording with an orchestra in a couple of weeks during the time of the GPO Orchestration Competition Performance.

Since there will be an orchestra at our disposal, are there any instruments, articulations or effects you would like recorded? Pendereck effects? Orchestral hits? Glisses, Instrument hits, back of instrument, tuning, etc?

If there is anything you would like, now is the chance to provide your wishlist.

Trombones section (flutter-tongued and non) glissando. (up and down the full tri-tone if possible) That would be cool.

Or, howabout I send you a score of mine and you just record THAT?? ha ha ha. Just kidding Gary!

Well, in the string arena I for one would like faster slides for the slides toolbox. I think that could be very useful! How about a selection of chromatic runs?? That would be awesome. Then I could do the opening of my mockup of "Love's Theme" by Barry White.

I wouldn't mind a small report on the selection of microphones, and how many they use, mic preamp/audio interface, brand model etc. So Gary, are you going to record it on your new Mac Mini with DP, a MOTU traveler audio interface and a few awesome Neumann mics?

Timpani rolls that work like snare rolls, with the mod wheel.
    That would be REALLY nice.

More Bb clarinets and trombones would also be nice.

Other than that, I feel your library is very complete and versitle.

If you ever consider updating the GOS recordings, get your 'cellists to agree on the second finger! Their F naturals, F sharps, C naturals, and C sharps are often a little out of tune with each other in the susV and Grand Detache cello patches and some of the others (middle to upper range, D and A strings). And extend the range by a fifth for the cellos, maybe a fourth for basses, and a little bit for violin and viola too.

    Timpani rolls, indeed.
The conductor's frenzied baton tap on his stand.

Looking through the Kent Kennan orchestration book....

String Harmonics.... Used quite often, it seems.

The rest are more for fun, and can usually be faked:
Col legno.............. Not used so often.
Spiccato .............. Used very, very often.
Slurred Staccato.... Used even more often!
