Thumbs down disappointed with Sax Lab....

The idea is tempting, but i have to say I'm less than impressed. It sounds like sampled sax, and unfortunately, to my ears, like sampled sax as we might have had it 10 years ago. Rather static, horribly synthetic almost.

I've heard nicer from a 32MB sampler (Roland library, or E-mu/Xsample).

Pity. if someone could make a sax plugin which sounds as nice and is as much fun to play as Real Guitar does for guitar, i'd grab it like a shot.

    Yeah...

I mean I still use it for quick sax lines, because I don't have nothing else and it works fine.
I think there's a lot of paramenters to tweak and you could have good realistic sax lines if the sound quality wasn't so synthy.

Anyway, can't wait for liquid sax to come out...

Liquid Sax will likely have excellent sound quality and good material -the sources are Melodyne and Ueberschall, both market leaders - but you won't be able to "play" the sounds, I think -only re-shape (i.e edit) the lines in the supplied material.

A nice-sounding Sax VI with good realtime control....maybe Candy will do it?

    XanaX,
we really like your humor and the entire yellow tools team had to laugh when reading your post.
The positive effect for us is that it seems you have not forgotten Candy yet ;-)
Well, if you have time come and visit us as at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt (6th - 9th April; hall5.1/booth D39) and give Candy a try - it's finished!
Best regards and be sure Candy offers exactly what you all are looking for

Thumbs up Re: disappointed with Sax Lab....

    Christian,

Great news on Candy! I'm sure putting together a sax library is a tough job. I wish you and the Yellow Tools team much success with it! Can't wait to hear it.

    All the very best,

Not to throw the topic off the track. but this is a sensitive area. sax is impossible to captue thru samples.

I've used this internet sax player on 5 songs so far from Bari to soprano. Pop to jazz improv. Fat Benny Hill Bari sax to Funky Alto.

Just a thought if you really want something that sounds like real music...AND that you'll want to listen to again and again after you're done the piece

Sax is just one of those instruments... Use the real thing and feel the JOY!!!

His time is reasonably priced too.

Arrow Re: disappointed with Sax Lab....

There is something new coming up:

    An Alto-Saxophone Sample Instrument with:
1757 Samples, 500MB, up to 15 dynamic stages
19 different playing techniques in one preset (keyswitch)
    never heard midicontrollers like:
growl- wind- keys- realvibrato- breath rel. trigger- and effect control and much more.

    listen:
    http://www.wizardmedia.de/altsax/Misty.mp3
    http://www.wizardmedia.de/altsax/PickUpThePieces.mp3
    http://www.wizardmedia.de/altsax/DonnaLee.mp3
    http://www.wizardmedia.de/altsax/MorningDance.mp3

    watch:
    http://www.wizardmedia.de/altsax/Alt...%20D_Large.swf
    http://www.wizardmedia.de/altsax/Alt...Demo_Large.mov

    believe:
The instruments will be available including a kontakt-player as standalone or plugin.
The website for more information will open at April 4 2005
Alto Sax will be available at the same time.

A Tenor-Sax with more than 2500 Samples and up to 22! dynamic stages
will come up two weeks later.

Next will be trumpet in the same quality available end of April.
Hopefully in summer 2005 the complete big-band will be finished.

I say Chris, since you're doing it for kontakt you might want to take a look at the new K2 scripting and see if you can do some authentic legato programming with it & release that later as an update.
