    E-mu 1820m and Sample Libraries

I am planning to upgrade my sound card from an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro.

I am looking seriously at the 1820m from E-mu.

Does anyone have experience with this card? Is this a good choice?

Here are the applications I run on a 3.4 pentium, Asus P4C800-e, with 2GB ram:

    Cubase SX2
    Adobe Audition
    Sibelius
    Midi-Yoke
    GOP
    Full Kontact
    Various sample libraries
    EW Silver
    PMI Harpsichords
Sampletech Black Grand and White Sister
    Video Editing Software

Thank you for comments on this sound card or comparable. (note: I need balanced inputs, DAT input, preamp, multiple lines in)

The E-mu drivers are not world class, but their cards can be configured for pro-level recording. Try this forum for info re successfully configuring the E-mu's. http://www.productionforums.com/emu/ Check the 1212m posts, too. It's the same card, but without the breakout box.

I don't think EMU has, nor plans to create GigaStudio drivers. If you have GIGA, you wouldn't want these audio cards.

Thank you for the link to the E-mu unofficial forum. Excellent.

And I don't have, nor intend to have giga studio.

Recording to the sound cord is mostly narration.

    Again, thanks.

I thought I'd heard that the E-mu drivers had some issues with Kontakt/Kompakt...can anyone confirm that? I'm interested in the product, but it's gotta work with Kontakt...

    Works absolutely fine.

I have also looked at this card, glad to hear it works with Kontakt. (I wouldn't really miss Gigastudio)

    Martin,

Doesn't using GS3 in rewire mode obviate the need for GSIF drivers?

You are probably thinking of the Giga VST adapter.

The Emu cards don't handle rewire or GSIF. Their ASIO 2 works great.
