    Talking 64-bit Windows imminent

After a long wait, 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Server 2003 should ship within weeks

Microsoft is planning to offer long-awaited 64-bit versions of its Windows operating system next month.

Speaking at the Intel Developer Forum on Tuesday, Windows chief Jim Allchin said the desktop version of the souped-up Windows would come at the beginning of April, while the server version would come at the end of the month

No mention of driver availability. I assume it'll come with at least generic disk and video drivers. Been following the Sonar forum on that. Doing a search for "x64" I found a few references to M-Audio beta drivers.

RME as well as many others are working on x64 drivers. Surely the transition will bring some pain but it starts next moth

    Question Re: 64-bit Windows imminent

For stupid musicians like me, could you outline what 64bit will mean for running samples and music?

I'm pretty sure windows 64 will allow you to use up to a terabyte (1024 gigs) of ram. Plus now all of the Althon 64 guys will be able to take advantage of their processors true power. Of course, I wouldn't count on Windows 64 to be stable for a year or so....

Win64 has been available as a public beta for quite a while. All reports are that is quite stable already.
