Cool Re: A snippet of EWQLSO Strings (MP3)

Love to hear it, Chaim, but that link isn't working (for me).

    Try again?

Very intriguing. How did you pull off the fast runs. It sounds like there is slurring in the second to last one.

The last run was a little artificial sounding more so than the others. But the two before I'm wondering how you got the slurring effect. Did you overlap the notes? Or, did you use the pedal, or is it in the patch?

    Thanks,

    Jose

    Thanks.

    Do you have the library?

Platinum was used here. (Close mics, and Stage mics mixed -5 db)

    • The first run (down) is one of the short patches of the 18 violins.

    • The second run (up) is the Gliss Long patch from the 11 violins.

    • The third run (down) I think is the same 18 violin patch as above and also a hard attack (sustained) patch of the 10 violas.

Only the second run has slurring in the patch (I think it's 3 chromatic notes at a time). The others were simply played like that on the keyboard.

Or, did you use the pedal,
    'The' pedal? Which pedal?

theres no "legato" switching in platinum, its only in silver. Partly due to the mic positions, partly due to the pro upgrade I believe.

    What's legato switching please?

Re: A snippet of EWQLSO Strings (MP3)

Its a process of switching to false "legato" samples with the attack truncated, or masked using other samples

This first shows up in giga libraries, in Advanced Orcehstra, using keyswitches. *I believe, maybe earlier. Hardware samplers also had tools to create this process before giga)

Then Garritan Orchestral strings used a tool to "automate" the process (and allow for its use since giga was limted to 4 stereo dimensions) using an extra application and the sustain pedal to "switch" to legato attacks.

GPO and EWQLSO Silver use similar methods to "switch" to legato attacks.

it can be done in Gold and Platinum, but the amount of work may not be jsutified with the upcoming pro upgrades which will feature their "QLegato", which in its own requires another explenation.

VSL, offers their own legato switching technique as well, which is even more involved and creates some unbelievably realistic results.
