    CES Show Report

Garritan Orchestral Libraries exhibited at the 2005 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last Thursday January 06, 2005 through Sunday January 09, 2005. CES is the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow with over 140,--- attendees (from 128 countries) at the event. The show comprises over 1.5 million square and introduces all the latest technology. We were at Booth Number 80011 at the Studio@Home Showcase in the CES South Plaza. The Studio@Home Showcase officially brings a large audience tosee the latest developments in music recording, mixing, performing and composition (and now f - orchestral sampling). Its great that CES is recognizing musical technologies.

And a large audience it was (despite some bad weather - yes, it actually did snow in Las Vegas and then turned to rain). The CES is humongous and must be the mother of all trade shows. Bill Gates again gave the keynote address. This year's buzz and trends seemed to be High Definition TV/Flat Panel Displays (there was a 102 inch [no kidding] plasma HDTV and wireless everything (seems like the death knell of cables),as well as convergence. Lots of MP3 players and satellite radio seemed to have a big presence. Convergence seemed to be the dominant current of the show.

Met some very interesting people. Sinbad stopped by the GPO booth and had an opportunity to talk. On Saturday morning there was a press conference and panel comprised of the most respected and prolific music producers in the recording industry. Among the panelists: Phil Ramone, Elliot Scheiner, Al Schmitt, Frank Filipetti, George Massenburg, Ed Cherney and others. They spoke about the newly-formed Music Engineering & Technology Alliance (META) and the future of audio recording and distribution. The panel talk took place right across from the GPO booth and it was exciting to meet some of these legends. Also met with people from Microsoft, Yamaha/Steinberg, EMU, AMD, M-Audio, CMP (publishers of Game Developer Magazine, Keyboard & EQ) and some of the brass of various other companies. There will be some exciting developments that will be taking place.

It was great meeting some forum members there - JonFairhurst and others. Also had a chance to meet with David Lomascola who uses GPO is his performances at the Bellagio and the Liberace Museum.

Lots of press reporters there - reputedly over 6,000 press people there. I had an opportunity to talk with folks from PC Magazine, LA Times, Boston Globe, NY Times, Extreme Tech, Tech TV and many others. Good Morning America also came by the GPO booth with cameras rolling. While at CES, I also received the news that GPO won a Game Developer Magazine Award!

There was lots of interest in GPO by attendees. We announced a new GPO "Lite" version which will be aimed toward the consumer and education market. We also announce that we will be offering a GPO "Advanced" version. More details will be posted soon.

Las Vegas is a place to see new, exciting and also strange things. Even saw a few people roaming on Segways. The Star Trek Experience is a must see.

Wish I had more time to see all the exhibits and report all the neat gadgets there. Maybe next year a GPO Convention in Las Vegas? Seems like we hit the jackpot in Las Vegas. Good to be back.

I guess there's no sense in camping out here waiting for the details. Off to bed.

Glad the show was a success. I can only imagine what will transpire at NAMM.

That's just too incredibly cool, especially Goodn Morning America. I'm glad the show went so well. Waiting for the announcements on GPO Advanced and the other developments is killing me!!

(BTW, pooh on a $70,000 102" TV. I'm looking at a 135" image right now, it's better image quality than plasma and only costs $995. Front projection is the way to go!! )

Thumbs up Re: CES Show Report

Nice to hear you had such a rewarding show in Las Vegas. Congratulations on the award and feels good to have you home again!
BUT WHAT ABOUT ELVIS! IT WAS HIS BIRTHDAY SATURDAY AND YOU DIDN'T SEE NOT ONE ELVIS?
I would have thought on Saturday there would have been thousands of impersonators asking for some new high tech equipment for their so called Elvis acts.
Well, anyway, thank you, thank you very much.

Here's a report of some of the important past activities on the forum while you were away.

Hmmm, where did I put that report .... hmmm, oh yeah ... "details will be posted soon."
