Delta 1010, drivers, and GSIF2: The Pulse-Pounding Question

I use a Delta 1010 with Giga 3.04. The newest driver for the Delta promises GSIF2 compatibility, though it requires that one always record in 24-bit mode.

Does this mean installing the driver will automagically improve Giga's latency? (Which is supposedly one of the benefits of GSIF2).

Will the gain be counteracted by the CPU load of mandatory 24 bits?

    Yours in inquiry,

    Mike

Re: Delta 1010, drivers, and GSIF2: The Pulse-Pounding Question

    GSIF-2 has three parts:

    1) MIDI input - this is faster than in GSIF-1
    2) Audio input - this is new for GSIF-2. Now we can take in external audio and run NFX effect of it - including GigaPulse
    3) Audio output - unchanged from GSIF-1

It's strage that the new driver has added the 24-bit requirement on capture. It should not add any latency, since Giga works with 32-bits internally regardless of the setting. Also, PCs are 32-bits these days, so each data access can handle 24-bits with no extra load.

Yes, one can pack two 16-bit words into a single 32-bit data register, but that's often slower, since the CPU has to shift and mask the words to combine and separate them.

BTW, I'm running an Audiophile 192 with GSIF-2 drivers and the latency is excellent.
