quick S/PDIF out to Headphone question

Yeesh I'm feeling like an amatuer,

Someone with an RME HDSP9652 lend me a quick hand please. I'm home for the holidays and although I was able to bring my computers along I wasn't able to include my speakers with them. I'm attempting to simply run the audio out of my HDSP9652's S/PDIF into my headphones.

    Thanks.

Your headphones will need an Analogue signal...

Well naturally my headphones have a 1/4" jack. I tried taking the S/DPIF signal into the headphones via an RCA to 1/4" cable but I'm not getting any sound in the phones.

This may be a really stupid question but there's a red and white S/PDIF cable attached to my soundcard. Is this L and R of a stereo signal or is one a Stereo In and the other a Stereo Out?

I think Bill's point was that cable's are not going to help you.

You need a digital to analog converter to plug the headphones in.

SPDIF does not work on the stereo principal you are referring to...one is in, the other is out, it sends digital bits down the cable, not an analog signal, which is what the headphones will need.
