Is there a piano sample that sounds similar to this?

    Hi there

I've uploaded a couple of small snippetts (both under 2Mb) of my favourite piano player (see if you can name him).

The first is an example of the piano sound I'm looking for. Can you recommend a giga piano with a similar tone to this excerpt please?

The second is an example of how I wish I could play. It's not technically difficult, but full of soul.

    Hope you like them,
    Steve.

That's a gorgeous recording - and it does sound familiar. Give me a few hours, I'll get it.

The tone of the piano is not dissimilar to some of the Galaxy demos - but that's Mac only I believe.

Artvista makes a really lovely sounding piano for giga that may have the sound you're looking for. Check out http://www.artvista.net/demos.htm specifically the Miguel Pessoa Improvisations. It's a sampled Malmsjö Acoustic Grand.

If you like the Malmsjö sound you might also want to check out Sampletekk White Grand at http://www.sampletekk.com/wgresource.php

That's a gorgeous sounding piano, but it lacks the presence of the one in my example. I'll check out the White Grand as that seems a little brighter.

    Thanks!

Ok. I'll take a guess. Reminds me of Diana Krall, but is she really that good as this record sounds? Seems like a fine Yamaha. I love that grand. Going to record on such a Yamaha soon; can't wait.

I haven't found a sample that plays like a real Yamaha grand does, with so much subtlety and such dynamics. The playability of the short notes on a real Yamaha haven't been rivalled in software yet. Maybe Ivory....

    Just my 2p.

    Hi Fisheye

Not a bad guess. The pianist in question is actually a guy called Dave Newton. He accompanies my all-time favourite US singer, Stacey Kent. (http://www.staceykent.com/)

Born in the US, Stacey now lives in the UK (luckily for us) and I'm seeing her live tonight! If I get the chance, I'll ask Dave Newton what piano he uses and any tips on the micing front. I'm guessing Yamaha, like you.

    Cheers!

PS Really looking forward to having a dedicated piano forum.

Second exerpt really sounds like a Yamaha C7 to me

Please check out our Ultimate Yamaha C7 library, it's pretty darn close to that second exerpt, I'll be posting demos of our new 24 bit GS3 version with 2 sets of resonance impulse (Bridge or Body) later today.

    Hi Franky
I'll check that out. Looking forward to the 24bit version. That may just be what I'm looking for.
    Thanks
