Question what is the difference between... Please help me choose

Hi... What i need to compose is a modern music track showing a "Yakuza" style... so i need some chinese/japan instruments to achieve this so....

    WHat to go for:
    Quantum Leap Rare Instruments GIGA
    or
ProSamples Vol 31 Rare Ethnic Instruments (MUCH CHEAPER)

What is the difference between them ????

The GIGA version is in the GigaStudio sampler format, and would be the "complete" original library.

The ProSamples version states it includes the following formats:
Formats included are: AUDIO, ACID, AIFF/MAC, AKAI, EXS24, HALion, and WAV/PC
    http://www.soundsonline.com/sophtml/...phtml?sku=PS31

I would assume (but do not know for sure) that the ProSamples version would not contain ALL of the original samples. If it does, that would be a really great bargain.

The soundsonline says on the page:
"Want to know what is on each ProSamples volume, or search for a sound in the series? - click here to download the ProSamples Library Wizard:"
and i've downloaded it and it doesn't work... Crashes after start

Maybe someone have it working and can post a list ?
    Nick maybe ?

    PLEASE

    Hi Luk,

One consideration for you also may be that there is an upgrade path from Rare Instruments 1 to RI 2. I don't know if there will be an upgrade path from the ProSamples version. That could be another thought. RI 2 will be a much more complete library in terms of the instruments included. RI 1, although great, only has a few Far East instruments.

If you are in a position where you will be unable to wait, you may want to supplement RI 1 (full or ProSample version) with something like Heart of Asia which will contain some instruments missing from RI 1.

I tried to run the Wizard myself but, being on a Mac, the wizard is only for OS9 and I'm using OSX only (no Classic installed).

I downloaded it, but there isn't any way to generate a summarized report. The tool allows you to see a listing of every sample (e.g. every .wav file) in the #31 CD, but there are just too many individual samples to list. Also you can't copy the list.

It would take about an hour of time to look at the list and type up all of the instruments included.

I would suggest sending an email to Soundsonline.

    Hi luk,

Doug replied in this thread. He indicates that there will be an upgrade but hasn't announced the details yet.

Re: what is the difference between... Please help me choose

    Hi,

I listened to the mp3 demo of the ProSamples Vol 31, and I thought it sounded great. Will this run OK through Kontakt?

Kontakt's supposed to play AKAI, (and I know it plays WAV) but the site has a disclaimer regarding compatibility.

Sorry if the question seems dense, but I'm really looking for some good "ethnic" sounds (especially pipes), and this seems like a very good deal for $50, if I can play it with my Kontakt player without sacrificing quality. I don't yet really understand how the various propietary formats and conversion tools, etc. work.

    Thanks,
