    Question P4 2.8 vs. 3.2

    Hi folk,
The word has it that the 2.8 has a 1Mb cache while tha 3.2 has only 512Kb.

Has anyone had oportunity for comparison? Failing that, based on experience, will the greater speed of the 3.2 make up for the smaller cache?

    Thanx ....

Depends which chip you are talking about. The clock speed alone is not the only identifying factor for P4's.

There are (as near as I can tell) 4 2.8 GHz chips.
512K cache with 533 MHz bus
512K cache with 800 MHz bus + Hyperthreading
1M cahce with 533 MHz bus
1M cache with 800 MHz bus + Hyperthreading.

The 3.2 GHz chips come with either
    512M, 512M + 2M L2, or 1M caches

The 3.2's all have 800 MHz bus and Hyperthreading

As to what impact faster clocks or more cache would get you depends on the application.

Would these be the new Prescott chips? I underatand they have a heat problem.

As for the application, i'm thinking of getting GigaStudio 3 and VSL to run with SONAR and later, Sequoia.

    Thanx again.
