Bach's Toccata and Fuga in Dm - from Yu Nakajima

Yu Nakajima just sent in his rendition of J.S. Bach Toccata and Fuga in Dm for your listening pleasure.

Re: Bach's Toccata and Fuga in D - from Yu Nakajima

This is one of my all time favorite pieces of music (my cell phone rings to this). I haven’t dared try my hand at this on the GPO organ because I know nothing about the organ, not to mention my meager keyboard skills. Besides, the music I have was arranged for piano. After listening to this demo I definitely won’t try my hand at it – I couldn’t come even close to this. Great job.

Sounds pretty convincing to me. Just as good as the CD I have of it performed live.

    Yu,
Most extraordinary. Did you play this in live with any subsequently editing afterwards? This is done so well it rivals anything I've ever heard recorded or live.

This is stunning. WOW! I was nearly in tears hearing this. I remember my piano teacher (who was the local church organist) performing this on a huge new installation that finally made it in just before she retired. It was the seminal experience that sent me on the path to understanding orchestration and synethsis.

There were a lot of choices made here that I'm not sure if there's notation or direction - but I don't care - it's simply amazing.

    Bravo!

Now, that was something to behold. Not exactly interpreted "by the book" in all places but that just made it seem fresh to these old ears - I like surprises and new views of things familiar. This was very compelling and I loved the registration and mix. This is another one that if it had been presented to me as a recording of a real organ performance I would not have questioned it.

    Right,

Bach when Bach wrote this he was A Minor - I mean D Minor.
