HELP: GOSLite - Halion ignores mod-wheel or...?

    ..I\'m missing something obvious?

Just took delivery of GOS Lite courtesy of Gary\'s fantastic discount offer to members of this forum - if anyone is wavering and needs more variety in the string section - don\'t wait to be the 20,000th poster here - just buy it - you won\'t regret it!

All the .gig files import into Halion wonderfully and work just as well as Halion\'s own format (ie it still forgets where gig samples are at random just as it does with its own .fxp format).

I set up Halion to receive \'ext controller\' on options, and controllers like glide, attack, running from my external midi-controller box, do exactly what I would expect. However in the GOS Lite manual, a few of the patches are indicated as responding to the mod-wheel to, depending on the patch, alter expression, vibrato or tremelo. However when moving the controller nothing happens - is this because the necessary functionality is specialised for Gigasampler and does not transfer to Halion, or is this supposed to work and I am missing some key piece of information?

I still haven\'t been able to get this to work - can anyone help please?!

Sounds like some of the functionality from Gigasampler is not importing correctly into Halion, which I think is to be expected. I would suggest waiting for Halion 3, which will be better giga conversion support, oyou can try programming some of the patches in halion yourself. **I also remember reading something about a Translator Garritan edition. If that\'s true you might be able to use that version of Traslator very well for translating giga to halion. I think that would be my best bet.

Just checked it out and it seems it does exist. try this:

I also received GOS Lite last week, a great package I must say. I imported the gig files into Halion without problems. I haven\'t spent too much time with the EXP programs yet but I quickly auditioned them after import and the mod wheel was definately controlling the volume of the sound. I\'m not sure what parameters the mod wheel is supposed to control in the Giga version so I can\'t say if it doing all it\'s supposed to in Halion. I\'ll test it again later today and let you know what I find.

hmmm... the latest Halion update had some great improvements when importing Giga. I did a quick import of GOS lite last night (disk 1 only) and got some strange results...

The import worked, but on the EXP patches, the volumes for the cross-fades were wacky -- mod wheel low samples playing at -28db; mod wheel high samples playing at -8 db; mod wheel not affecting envelope attack (for example). I tried the Chicken Systems Translator for Garritan and got similar results (but the mod wheel did at least affect the envelope attack). However, Translator didn\'t like any of the WARM patches (but I was able to skip over them by clicking OK several hundred times).

These kinds of problems are easy to fix once you have the programming in Halion, but I agree, somewhat unexpected. I\'ll try more tonight and see what happens...

Thx guys (P1E, Looper and Jordo) for your inputs on this - I look forward to hearing any suggestions you may have.

P1E and Looper - which versions of Halion are you using?

A bit more time on this and I have answered my own question. So in case this affects anyone else (and experts correct me if I am wrong), but in GOS Lite the EXP samples are cross-faded when you move the MOD wheel. Unfortunately, my version of Halion (1.1) only supports velocity and pitch cross fades, not cross fades driven by a midi controller.

Low, did you know (hey, I\'m a poet and didn\'t know it) the upgrade to Halion 2 is only about $19 and it includes some additional 5.1 surround samples on the CD too. It\'s well worth the nominal fee.

    LOW,

The Giga import on Halion 1.1 was not very good and it is not surprising some of the EXP copntrols do not convert. Halion 2 has vastly improved Giga converters and is well worth the $19 upgrade. The Giga converter on Halion 3 works exceedingly well. I have been working with Halion 3 and am very impressed. It should be out very soon and you may want to update to Halion 3.

Many thanks Looper and Gary - I\'ll do just that - I\'d spent my time till now on the Steiny site wondering whether to take up the upgrade from Cubase 5.1 to SX2.1. Wonder if Halion 2 to 3 will be just another $19 when it comes out?

I was actually expecting more problems importing from Giga format into Halion. In fact the samples all import flawlessly, the cross faded samples sitting exactly where they should be in the keyzone editor! Halion 1.1 is just missing the functionality to make it the cross-fade happen!
