    woodwinds: embouchure sans pressure possible?

How do you tone down the initial attack of woodwinds in order to slur (run together) notes, or is that part of the legato syndrome?
This is my second post and I would like to thank Gary Garrison and his organization for this unique program.

    Sam,

Yes, it is part of the legato function (sustain pedal – cc#64) for solo instruments. Pedal up for tongued notes, pedal down for slurred. Tongued notes should be separated, slurred notes connected. Tongued notes respond to velocity (gentle attacks for low velocities on up through moderate accents for high velocities), slurred notes do not.
