Symphony No 1 - III. Scherzo

    Dear Jos, dear fastlane,

thank you for your encouraging comments to the Scherzo from my 2nd symphony, so I dare now to present to you also the Scherzo of my 1st symphony. It is more passionate and energetic and I hope you like that also :-)

    Hi Gerd,

Again you've created a masterful piece of symphonic music. Also this time, a little Beethovenian twist is clearly present, but who cares? You've made your very personal version of a scherzo with some very interesting qualities. It is beautifully constructed, with fine elaboration of the themes, nice melodic lines, which go even to the basses with a mighty chromatic passage. I simply love the way you've handled these bass lines. That remains me so much of our friend Ludwig who considered the basses a most valuable part of the orchestral tissue, even as an independent element to create atmosphere.

Everything comes together so well here: construction, harmony, thematic material and development, orchestration, colouring, mix, recording... In one word, a sublime job!

Thanks for sharing that beauty with us!

    Dear Jos,

that you perceive here the Beethovenian flavour is not astonishing: The main theme of the Scherzo and also of the Trio I took from the sketches Beethoven wrote for his planned 10th symphony in 1825!

Re: Symphony No 1 - III. Scherz

    Hi Gerd,

Excellent work on your Symphony No1 Scherzo also! You’ve certainly mastered your software.

This does sound like it could be the work of Beethoven. There is also plenty of energy and emotion in this music like Beethoven’s.

It could only be bettered by hearing it performed live.

This is indeed well crafted, carefully interwoven parts merging. with pauses where appropriate. Quite well done
