Hi Yudit and Mark,

In my case, there are three possibilities to write music:

  • I'm improvising on my accordion and encounter some valuable theme or sequence.
  • I have a ready made piece of music (sometimes with harmony) in my head and while trying to write it down, it can flow in the most unexpected directions...
  • I'm fiddling with notes and harmonies in my notation program and they almost always turn into something that opens the gate to an entire work. Sometimes immediately, sometimes after hundreds af attempts. That approach in most cases ends up in the paper/computer bin and every now end then it offers a new work...

The main thing is, that we must hear the music in our heads and enrich it with creativity, technique, talent but most of all with perseverance and the strong will to create something we can fully support. In other words: creativity and self-criticism.
