    ***Advertisments***
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 12 — Johnny Cash, “The Man in Black” who became a towering figure in American music with such hits as “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk the Line” and “A Boy Named Sue,” died Friday. He was 71.

Not that I knew him, but I will miss him.

    Re: loss of a legend

I had the pleasure of playing trombone on The Johnny Cash Show which was The Smothers Brothers Summer Replacement Show in 1969. It was done in the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, and it was the first network show out of Nashville other than specials. The list of guests was a who\'s who because of their tremendous love and respect for Johnny. I played on TV shows and a number of his albums over the next 20 years, and I can honestly say I never met a finer man. He was a man of great faith and no ego. I never saw him do anything to hurt anyone. He was a great role model for people in the entertainment business and he will be sorely missed.
