Original song written and sung (ARRRRRRGH!) by me

Thought I would share the inspiration I had last night - a song I wrote, inspired by a prose passage written by a friend of mine, describing how she felt watching her 5 year old daughter in a store that sells princessy-type things, such as plastic tiaras.

Piano is Garritan Authorized Steinway. I will be getting a proper vocalist to do the vocals for me, but in the mean time, it's me singing (with a ridiculous amount of pitch correction applied). Enjoy!

    Here it is: https://app.box.com/s/rgwthdgikfl8297dfgi9

    Lyrics:

She danced around like a princess, tiara in her hair
She seemed almost weightless, without a single care
I thought she looked so beautiful, so full of grace and charm
And I’ll do my best to protect her, to shield her from all harm.
I wish that someone else had done the very same for me
    I could have been beautiful
    I could have been beautiful.

I’ll cover her with love so she won’t feel mistrust or shame,
I’ll spare her from a lack of youth, she won’t feel she’s to blame
Maybe then, when heartbreak comes, she won’t be destroyed
Maybe she’ll still see her worth, the crushing she’ll avoid.
If only someone else had done the very same for me
    I could have been beautiful
    I could have been beautiful.

She’ll always know that deep inside she’s still that young princess
She’ll know that she deserves a prince who’ll give her happiness
He’ll love her for her heart and mind, he’ll love her for her soul
He’ll make her feel that she’s the only one that makes him whole.
I’m going to do for her what no one ever did for me
    She’s going to be beautiful
    She’s going to be beautiful.

    Very, very beautiful.
I would not like it if anyone else would sing it. You ARE beautiful, (at least inside your heart)
Have a good night and thanks for this

Elton John, eat your heart out, you've been replaced!

    Lovely, sir, just lovely.

    Best regards,
    Bill

Thanks, Raymond! Glad you liked it!

Ted, that's very kind of you to say. I like the fact that I sing it since it's very personal (even though I didn't write the original "poem" on which this was based), but my singing is just not that great. More news coming about vocals...

Bill: I don't believe I possess a suitable pair of ridiculous glasses to be able to replace Elton John! Anyway, I'm so glad you liked it.

    Update!!!

    Update:

I have secured the services of Marri Nallos to sing the vocals. If you live in the Western Hemisphere, you've probably not heard of her, but she has some presence in the East, and has been dubbed "The Crystal Voice of Asia". With good reason - judge for yourself:

I am very excited about this, and can't wait to hear what she does with it!

This is such a charming, wonderful song. I have a little daughter myself (9 by now) and do recognise what the lyrics tell... Beautifully set in notes and feel. You've made a delicate tribute to innocence and pure youthful beauty. Thanks for that!

Pitch corrections (and a somewhat too close recording), who cares? The purpose of the song is a thousand times more precious!

I've been listening to this song on and off since you posted it, and I must say it's quite touching. That feeling of wanting to do more for your child than was done for you (regardless of what the circumstances may have been).

Don't worry about your singing... I don't sing myself, unless I've got at least a half-dozen other people singing with me at the same time. :P

She has a lovely voice and a great style, but I still like your simple, unsophisticated, hearth-full singing more.

I would classify my voice more as sinful, unpolished, error-full, But thanks anyway!

Thanks, Matt. Glad you enjoyed it. I think you're right - these lyrics will resonate with a lot of people, in many different circumstances.

Thanks, Max. I love your description. Can I ask, what do you mean about the recording being too close? Do you mean I was too close to the microphone? (I did find out that I cannot quite fit my Blue Snowball into my mouth.)
