To answer your question Art…….I played this on my stereo in the living room and the sound bounced off the walls quite nicely!

I like all the “T’s” in the title too. (try to say it really fast 5 times in a row! Lol)

I think you perfectly hit the sweet spot for Grade 3 on this. The ranges and rhythm are all well within that grade level. What is unique about this piece is your use of accelerations of the theme and the variations of the theme itself.

Especially nice is the portion about a third in that only has a few instruments playing but with great independent contrapuntal lines. You give every player a chance to “shine” in this section before preceding to a tutti where the band can feel as a unified “force” and shine altogether.

It is a very satisfying piece for both player and listener. Great job!!!

Hi Cass. Thanks for your comments. I thought this piece might be odd because it's something a bit different for me, and I sometimes wonder if "different" means odd or pleasing. Yes, I was pleased with that section and some of the different moods I tried to create with the tempo variations. The title was too irresistible and did come naturally.

I'm guessing I'm doing close to as much as I can with the rendering in the Aria player in Finale with the two Garritan libraries I used. I know that I could render this piece much better in a DAW, but I'm not there yet.

Some things I already do in Aria:

    * Use solo instruments, not plr.
    * For upper WWs turn down the bass but not increase the highs.
    * For upper WWs boost mid-range slightly.
    * Normal low brasses and WW instruments, don’t boost the lows, but do slight cuts.
    * Turn stereo staging off.

I'd be grateful for your--or anyone's--suggestions on what else I can do to improve the rendering in Finale/Aria.

    Thanks again, Cass.

    Hello Art!

What a great composition! I enjoyed the tempo changes and the not-overdone hints of eastern European folk music. Though, every time I try to display my knowledge of musical style, I am completely wrong, I think (hope) I got it right in this case!

The title is great as well, alliterations are never a bad idea! I agree with Cass about the difficulty, it seems spot on. As for the rendering suggestions you asked for, I unfortunately cannot provide much assistance, but I am sure someone will come along with some great advice!

    Thanks for sharing!

Thank you, Michael. I tried to fashion this piece to be fun to play and hear without getting silly. Thanks again.

I'm frustrated, Art - I wrote a simply Brilliant post on this thread of yours two days ago , but along with some other replies here in The Listening Room, what I wrote was apparently lost in cyber space when PaPaChalk was changing servers for the Forum. I waited patiently yesterday to see if my posts would reappear - but since my replies are still not on here this morning - Here I am again.

The capsule version of my lost post: I really admire this piece--Love the whimsical title, and the breadth of the material is a great stretch for you. I especially like the transitions and then the execution of the elegant semi-classical sections.

You've been a busy composer! And what you've come up with is highly entertaining, so well done. AND I'm grateful I have another one of your perfectly done scores to study!

Thanks, Randy. Yeah, I saw that your post was there, and then it wasn't there.
