Wow! - Just one question. - Any chance of a two octave demo before the pre-release offer's up? - I can't remember what you did with the other piano's.

Mind you - I bought TBO 'blind' (or should that be 'deaf?') with the last pre-release offer, and wasn't disappointed, so I'm sure I won't be with this either.

In comparison to TBO, is this piano recorded just as close but with different mics to bring out a different characteristic - or is it a new mic position/perspective?

Ok, that was two questions.

Hi.

I'll get a 2 octave demo up before June 1:st.
7CG was recorded using other microphones not that close, but still pretty close- The different mics and positioning made the difference

Hi Worra,
what I did when I bought TBO was buy bought K2 24 bit and 16 bit, since I know my current machine can only handle the 16 bit and I will have to wait till I upgrade the machine to start using the 24 bit version. Bought both, when you had a group buy or some sale, maybe it was the birthday sale, don't quite remember.
would love to have the opputurnity currently to do the same with 7CG, that's buy bouth 24 and 16 bit, taken advantage of the special pre-sale price.
thanks

Hi.

There's now an option where you can get the 16 bit samples (if you own the 7CG) for $30

Hi.
There's now an option where you can get the 16 bit samples (if you own the 7CG) for $30
Actually the page says "Samples for 7CG in 16 bit format - Only for registered TBO users. Price: $30.00".

Worra, would you like to clarify how much the upgrade price from TBO to 7CG is during the pre-release period? $107.1?
The 7CG doesn't seem to be available for directdownload although I suppose it is the same size as TBO which is. When buying TBO you save 15% of the price if you go for direct download, so if the pre-release discount on the TBO->7CG upgrade is 10% on $119 maybe a later direct download version of the fullprice upgrade would be even cheaper than buying it now.

Hi.

"TBO" was a typo. Fixed now!
Yes, the upgrade price is $107.10 right now

7CG isn't available for DirectDownload yet, and it won't be during the presale period. Sorry.
The price for the 7CG DD version will be $169, so you actually save money if you go for the pre-release discount.

Hi Worra,
Yes, for those who are not upgrading $119 seems like a great deal and I really love TBO so I would advice anyone to go for it. :)
However, my question pertained to the TBO-to-7CG upgrade. If I'm not mistaken the price for this will be $119 (although it doesn't seem to be available during the pre-relase). So my reasoning is that instead of saving 10% now I might save the same amount or more if I later buy a direct-download upgrade. Am I right?

Actually, I haven't decided for a DirectDownload upgrade from TBO to 7CG. It's a bit complicated since we need to verify first if the customer is a registered TBO user.
There will be a limited offer for TBO users to upgrade to 7CG DirectDownload and all registered TBO users will recieve an offer with a special code.
However, pricewise, the pre-release offer will be a slightly better deal.

Hi Worra,

Does the 7CG include some kind of script for sympathetic resonance or something?

Thank you in advance.

No, but I'll make sure that our talented scriptmakers will get a chanse of making 3:rd party scripts for it.

No, but I'll make sure that our talented scriptmakers will get a chanse of making 3:rd party scripts for it.

There's an idea. Make every key sound every string. I'll get right on that...

What? I have enough polyphony, don't I? :)

amyhughes

BTW, if you have pedal-down samples, don't you get sympathetic resonance for free? That is, is it not already recorded in those samples? Or am I missing something?

Or is Sr_Velasco looking to resonate based on notes that are already playing when the sustain is pressed?

Yes - but only when the pedal is down. - A script is needed to simulate the sympathetic resonance when the pedal is up. - It's impossible to sample this - as their are an infinite number of possibilities depending on which combination of keys is pressed at any one time.

Resonance is recorded with the pedal up samples, too, is it not? There are still two things missing, as far as I know:

1) Resonance may not be additive to the degree you get when you play several simulataneous recordings of it.

2) The few strings that aren't damped (keys pressed) will resonate each other like pedal-down rather than pedal up.

Hi,

i've already find a soluce to reproduce this :

_ the sustain effect begin when several keys are down pedal up
_ overtones resonance can be wet or dry : it's depend on the numbers of overtones rules and keys down.

and the colour of overtones change in realtime when you play or release a chord key per key.

I've spent several hours and i've discovered that sympathic resonance is more complicated. And now i've a powerfull script that reproduce more that overtones.

:)

This time we have used the instrument impulse together with the convoluting reverb in Kontakt 2 to give the piano a natural resonance.

I think if you back away from the purely documentary aspect, the value becomes more obvious.

The issue with any sampled piano is the 88-discrete-note feeling, rather than the feeling of a single "thing" with 88 variants, which is really more the analog of a piano in performance space.

So, even on the simplest level (which works well for our purposes) there is value in squeezing the discrete samples through some sort of unifying resonance.

In GS-3, for instance, the easy freebie way to experiment with this is to load the GigaPiano II pedal-up resonance on the piano channel, and adjust the "perspective" slider to taste. The result can be surprisingly good on many pianos. For instance, I almost always use that impulse with SampleTekk's White Grand to some degree, just to warm it up a tad.

The obvious caveat is that each musical application is so different it's hard to say whether you derive positive benefit. In some cases, less is more, and the extra resonance is just in there consuming mix space without making a contribution.

This is very true, and you don't really stay in touch with it unless you get a chance to play an acoustic piano often.

That is always a good reality check for me.

Best regards,
Bruce

Hi,

you're right !

In my real Grand piano when 4 keys are down, i hear a sustain resonance even if the pedal is up +
(1)the resonance release of the undampered keys (g6toc8) as release
+ overtones.

And i hear this in the player perspective or in the public perspective.

This can be done with KSP script only (With sustain samples or convolution)

No products (Hardware or sampled libary) reproduce this behaviour, but very soon...

Actually, i play with a virtual piano that i have reprogrammed. And the piano as the same behaviour than my grand piano.

:)

Olivier

(1) Release in a piano is more than a damper noise.
